Prelims Day 1 Recap
America starts off World Champs with a bang, picking up the 1st and 2nd seeds this morning and the only two women under 2:10.
Alex Walsh's first 100 is 💰. Leah Hayes continues to improve, dipping under her time from Finals at Trials.

Predictions? Some of these ladies will need to step on the gas tonight or they will be on the outside looking in. And that includes the Olympic Champ, Yui Ohashi.
Florida teammates Kieran Smith & Trey Freeman both advance (5th & 7th). This is all that matters this morning.
Felix Aubock has surely enjoyed his move to Loughborough University. He's been swimming fantastic since making the move - and he is top seed tonight.
Danas Rapsys didn't break 3:50. Mack Horton got 9th. Is Germany going to show up or nine? Henning Mühlleitner is 11th and way off his best.

Predictions?I've got Elijah WINnington on my fantasy team.
Looking at these Prelim results really makes me think Sarah Sjostrom might be kicking herself. Torri Huske was the only women under 57 seconds. Fellow teenage American, Claire Curzan, is 4th.
What a great swim from Farida Osman, the former Cal star from Egypt. I believe that's a best time and African record?!
Predictions?America will get through to Finals tonight. Let's see what Yufei Zhang has up her sleeve.
Dylan Carter's a sub-23-all-the-time-kind-of-a-guy now. Caeleb Dressel has everyone right where he wants them.
Thomas Ceccon, one of my fav young swimmers that's ready to break out onto the podium, tied with Dressel. Michael Andrew the only other swimmer sub 23.
You'll have to be under 23 to make it back tonight I think. This event is STACKED.
Nic Santos. Szabo. Nyls. Flo. Govorov. Ben Proud!
Predictions? This SF will easily be the most exciting to watch. America looks to be in beautiful position yet again.
I love how Katie Ledecky always gets after it in Prelims. She could have chilled but instead she broke 4 minutes.
The race for 2nd and 3rd are going to be tight. Leah Smith sitting in 5th with a 4:04 right behind 3 x 4:03's.
Predictions? Will Summer McIntosh give her a go tonight? I've been hyping this race up in my own head but I'm feeling more and more confident in the GOAT winning tonight with ease.
This race looks to be playing out exactly how everyone thought it would...a 4-way race between Arno, Fink, Martinenghi, & Michael Andrew.
Predictions?Arno Kamminga has been about as consistent as a peak performer can be. But Nic Fink is one of swimming's sneakiest swimmer's.
Leon Marchand set a new French record with a 4:09.09. Carson and Chase with perfect morning swims for the next two seeds. Daiya Seto, one of the greatest 400 IMer's of all time, will be right there with them.
Olympic medalist Brendon Smith snuck in, getting 8th. Watch out for his last 100 it's a doozy. Matt Sates is out with a 4:14. He's been under the weather and more focused on Com Games.
Predictions? If you want to win tonight, you'll most likely have to run down Leon on the freestyle to do so.
Australia continues to be head and shoulders above the rest in this relay. Couple of 52's without Mollie O...
Penny Oleksiak will be on the Canadian relay tonight. It's going to be a close race between us and them for 2nd.
Predictions?How does Australia lose this?
The United States of America is looking SPICY!!!! Heldilox almost split under 47. Dressel didn't even swim on the relay. I think Dressel will lead off for Team USA and Chalmers will anchor for Australia. Chalmers with a 47.11 ain't too shabby but they just don't have the horsepower at the beginning of this race.
Some impressive splits from Josh Liendo of Canada (47.28) and Jacob Whittle from Great Britain (47.58). Those two will be around for a long time. Kristof Milak with a 47.3...
Predictions?U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Prelims cost $2.99 to watch on Facebook. Here are all the FB Events.
Finals are live on the Olympic Channel 12 PM EST.
