Prelims Day 6 Recap

No Caeleb Dressel so this event is all Kristof Milak. The undisputed champion in the 200 is staring down the World Record in the 100.

Michael Andrew has a tough double with the 100 Fly and 50 Free 31 minutes between each other. He's probably gotta be 51.3 to make 8th in the 100 Fly. Then he's gotta go right into the 50 Free Finals where he has a legit chance to win. If I were him, I'd scratch the 100 Fly.

Predictions? This was supposed to be one of the legendary battles of the week. Instead, we will see if the Hungarian, in front of the home crowd, can break Dressel's World Record in his absence.

Kaylee McKeown's backstroke has not been clicking this week. She opted not to swim the 100 Back in favor to work on her IM (she got 2nd behind Alex Walsh). Then she swam a 58.6 leading off the Mixed Medley Relay a couple days ago - that's 1.2 slower than her PB aka the WR. She tied for 5th yesterday in the 50 Back. And this AM, she was 2:09 in the 200.

Americans Phoebe Bacon and Rhyan White are sitting pretty. I'm looking for a 1-2 American sweep here.

Predictions?Kylie Masse won the 50 Back yesterday after getting 2nd in the 100. She's been 2:05 before and 2:05 should win it. She will be on the podium.

Bruno Fratus has just 2 more sub 22's to go to get to 100 all-time. How fitting would it be if his 100th sub 22 50 Free crowned him Fina World Champion?

Ben Proud ain't just gunna roll over for the Brazilian. The Muscle can put it all together.

Josh Liendo is having an awesome meet but is also doing the 100 Fly/50 Free double like Michael Andrew. That'll hurt.

If you get a chance, watch this Ukrainian guy Vlad Bukhov. He's not explosive off the start. He doesn't have underwaters. But he's got a beautiful straight arm. It's time for him to level up.

Predictions?Let's see if MA pulls out of the 100 Fly or not. Josh Liendo is set up to podium in that event behind Milak. I can't see how that doesn't affect him 30 minutes later.

Hey Olympic Champion, I see you down there in 12th!!

This should be Yufei Zhang's best fly race of the meet. The shorter the better for her right now.

Claire Curzan and Torri Huske are back for Team America. Both have the raw speed to be 25 mid today to get a spot in the top 8.

France has two strong swimmers in Melanie Henique & 100 Fly silver medalist, Marie Wattel.

Predictions?Sarah Sjostrom will break 25 in Finals and she will crush the field.

With Great Britain missing Duncan Scott, nobody should be able to sniff the USA tonight.

The Prelims squad scorched it this morning with Carson Foster and Trenton Julian bookending the relay in 1:45.6's. Excellent swim from Texas' Coby Carrozza (1:46.1).

Team America should consist of: Kieran Smith, Drew Kibler, Carson Foster, and Trenton Julian. Now that's an All-American relay.

Predictions?U-S-A!U-S-A!U-S-A!

Katie Ledecky became the winningest swimmer in history. And she will win her 5th 800 Free in a row tomorrow night. She cruisted an 8:17 this morning.

I'm really looking forward to the race between Leah Smith and Lani Pallister. They have both been having killer meets.

Predictions?Leah Smith is swimming exceptionally well -- crushing it on the relay win last night. I don't see how America doesn't go 1-2 in this.

Ledecky in 8:09.2.

Leah Smith 8:16.8 for 2nd.
