Prelims Day 7 Recap
Swedey Sarah Sjostrom didn't win the 100 Free last night -- I really thought she was going to be unstoppable. Wasick is gunna give her a run for her money in this one.
Erika Brown with a beautiful Prelims swim good for 4th. Torri Huske dipped below 25 but she's gotta be faster than that to make Top 8.
Predictions?I like Wasick and Sjostrom in this event.
Justin Ress setting the bar high in Prelims with a 24.24. Hunter Armstrong not too far behind him in 4th place.
Everyone you saw in the 100 Back is here including the newly minted 100 World Record holder. Plus, we got Australia's young speedster, Isaac Cooper in the mix.
Predictions? Two up and comers, Michele Lamberti and Yohan Ndoye-Brouard tied for 16th. Both are faster than this. Time to kick it up a notch in Semis.
All I'm seeing are stars and stripes. We've got 4 backstroke medals already on the Men's side of things -- why not add a couple more for good measure? Make it a perfect 6 for 6 medal haul for the American boys.
Two ladies under the 30 second mark in South African Lara van Niekerk (good for an African record!) & Italy's Benedetta Pilato. Pilato won the 100 but she's actually better at the 50. Estonian Jefimova (not to be confused with Russian Efimova) with a very solid swim this morning in 30.08.
Annie Lazor (15th) and Lilly King (9th) get 2nd swims. Ruta sneaks in 16th, as well.
Predictions?I'm so impressed with Lilly King's ability to not freak out when she was off her 100 World Record (and Personal Best time) by a couple of seconds. Instead, she puts it behind her and goes out and wins a World Title in the 200 Breast. What a boss.
I think this race is won by Pilato and the young Italian doubles up in the sprint breaststroke events.
Team America has won 4 relays already and soon they will make it 5.
Ryan Held, Brooks Curry, Torri Huske, Claire Curzan.
47 + 47 + 52 +52 = Victory
Predictions?Torri & Claire have been swimming A LOT. It's Day 7 of this marathon meet. Some people are coming down with sleepy disease. Others, COVID. None of that will stop the United States of Swimming.
The Men's 1500 is looking a lot like the 800 Free...though Ireland's Dan Wiffen didn't make it back in this one and Lukas Martens did (he missed the 800 Final).
Nobody sub 14:50 in Prelims.
Predictions? You might have to break 14:40 to get a medal. This is a stacked lineup with some of the event's best performers ever. G Palt will be in Lane 1 and has been sub 14:40 a few times.
What do you do about Bobby Finke, though? You got two choices - you either pound him out of the race over the first 1450 meters or you race him on the last 50.
Nobody has been able to compete with his 50 Free speed. Coming home in 25 is honestly most of these dudes best 50 times ever from the blocks.
You must be 4 seconds in front of him going into the final 50 or he will catch you.
Bobby Finke is on fire and it's going to happen all over again like a bad nightmare. He's in between these other guys ears, living rent free.
Prelims cost $2.99 to watch on Facebook. Here are all the FB Events.
Finals are live on the Olympic Channel 12 PM EST.
