Prelims Day 2

Sandpipers of Nevada have 3 of Top 8 times from the morning and all 3 swam the 800 Free last night. Bella Sims and Katie Grimes went 1-2 in their heat. But most impressive was 15 year old Claire Weinstein with a 1:57.7 beating out Leah Smith and Paige Madden and Torri Huske in her heat. Her PB was from January where she went 1:58.5.

Ledecky out the fastest in 56.6 and top seed in 1:56.2. Really no reason to push it this morning. NCAP's Erin Gemmell (Coach Bruce's daughter and Texas commit) looking to make the team in this event. She will make it back to Finals in 1:57.9.

Alex Walsh hit the 3rd 50 hard (29.79). I think you'll see that 4th 50 be more in line with her 3rd 50 split tonight.

Predictions:Ledecky, Walsh 1-2. Ledecky goes 1:54.2.

Took until heat 4 to get under 1:50 (Andrew Gray from Arizona State 1:48.9). No Caeleb Dressel but plenty of Texas Longhorns, as they have half the Finals heat locked up.

It's an All-NCAA Finale tonight with 4x Texas, 2x Florida, 1x Cal, 1x Georgia.

Word on the street is that Carson Foster has been listening to the GOAT, Ian Thorpe. He was out in 51.08 this morning. 1:45.5 is a PB and this morning's top seed.

Luca Urlando slips into the Top 8.

Predictions:Texas goes 1-2 tonight.

Kate Douglass smashed heat 2 going 2:24.4. Another UVA breaststroker, Anna Keating, was all smiles after her 2 second drop this morning to go 2:25.2. She was just behind the Lazor Beam (2:24.4) who registered the fastest time over the final 50 meters (36.4).

Keating looks to be fully recovered following her knee surgery, which she talked about with us at the UVA intrasquad meet last fall. That was over a 2 second drop!

Top seed is Lilly King, who dominated the final heat in 2:24.0. Out wayyyy faster than anyone else (1:08.8).

Predictions:I'll stick with the IU tandem that won Silver & Bronze in Tokyo.

This is not a particularly strong event for the American men.

Jake Foster didn't want Carson to be the only Foster to pick a walk out song tonight. Out in a speedy 1:02.0, he was the only dude to break 2:10.

Sure would have been nice to have Matt Fallon competing in this...

Predictions:I never bet against Nic Fink & Jake Foster looked outstanding this morning.

Phoebe Bacon is going to be tough to beat tonight. I don't think anyone is going to do it. Regan Smith has no pop. Her 50's are consistent she just seems to be missing that pop, that bounce.

Predictions:Phoebe Bacon, Rhyan White go 1-2 just like in Prelims.

Shaine Casas is on another level. I could watch him swim all day. Power & grace personified. Murph with a relaxing morning swim (1:57.4). Jack Aikens, freshman at UVA this year, with a new PB and first time under 1:57.

Predictions:Shaine is hitting his stride. Murph gets 2nd.

Claire Curzan nearly broke the American Record (25.60). Kelsi Dahlia (who went 25.65 this morning) holds it in 25.48. Pretty sure that is going down tonight.

Predictions:Claire Curzan opted out of the 200 Back today to focus on the 50 Fly. American Record incoming. Assuming Torri Huske scratches the 2 Free, she should be better tonight. She came on hard the last 5 meters which is where she will catch Dahlia.

Michael Andrew's first swim of the meet. Bit of a crappy breakout and finish - still goes a spicy 23.09. Dressel with a long finish goes 23.1. This is two man race tonight.

Predictions:Dressel tops MA but both break 23.
