Water safety advocate Chezik Tsunoda turns pain into purpose

Her documentary, Drowning in Silence, comes out his fall.

Chezik Tsunoda is a mother of four boys, a documentary filmmaker, and the founder of No More Under, a non-profit organization focused on providing access to swim lessons.

Since her 3-year-old son Yori drowned in a friend’s backyard pool, Chezik has been driven to promote the conversation about water safety and raise awareness around drowning prevention.

An average of 3,957 unintentional drowning deaths occurred each year from 2010–2019, according to the CDC. Nearly 1,000 of these are child drowning deaths.

"If I had one wish, it would be that swim lessons are offered in schools." - Chezik Tsunoda

It's grossly apparent that we need to get water safety education and lessons back into our schools. But, water safety education can also begin at birth, in hospitals. How easy and inexpensive would this be to create and implement in every maternity wing in your area code?
